About Dr. Sean E. Rogers

Dr. Sean E. Rogers, Phd is Dean of the URI College of Business and the Alfred J. Verrecchia-Hasbro Inc. Leadership Chair in Business. He is also a Professor of Management. Prior to being named Dean, he served as URI’s Chief Diversity Officer and Vice President of Community, Equity, and Diversity. Rogers joined the College of Business in 2018 as the Spachman Professor of Human Resources and Labor Relations, and has held several roles in the College, including Executive Director of Inclusive Excellence, Director of the Charles T. Schmidt Jr. Labor Research Center, Director of graduate programs in healthcare management, and Director of graduate programs in human resources and labor relations.

Education and Experience

A proud two-time graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Sean spent several years working in the airline industry and logistics before transitioning to his current career as an academic. His corporate experience includes positions in industrial engineering, finance, pricing, schedule planning, and network planning at US Airways, America West Airlines, ATA Airlines, AirTran Airways, and UPS. He also spent nine years as an enlisted soldier and NCO in the U.S. Army Reserves, and is an Iraq War combat veteran.

In addition to his Embry-Riddle education, Sean earned a master’s degree in human resources from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and a Ph.D. in industrial relations and human resources from Rutgers University. He is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), and a Society for Human Resource Management Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP). Sean is a Life Member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and currently serves as president of the fraternity’s alumni chapter in Ithaca, NY.
